Accessibility Statement
1. Our commitment
SRHE wants this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including people with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive impairments. We are committed to meeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our target standard, and we treat this as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-off task.
2. What we've done
- Used semantic HTML and landmark roles (navigation, main, contentinfo) throughout the site
- Provided a "skip to main content" link for keyboard users
- Ensured visible focus indicators on interactive elements
- Used accessible labels (
aria-label,aria-expanded) on the navigation menu toggle and cookie banner - Designed text and background colour combinations to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios
- Used relative, scalable font sizing so text can be resized in the browser
- Respected the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting to disable non-essential animation
3. Known limitations
We are aware of areas that still need improvement, including ensuring all decorative graphics are properly hidden from assistive technology in every context, and carrying out a full screen-reader pass across all pages. We have not yet commissioned an independent accessibility audit.
4. Feedback and contact
If you experience any difficulty using this site, or need information in a different format, please contact us at accessibility@srhe.net. We aim to respond within 5 working days and will work with you to find an accessible way to provide the information you need.
5. Enforcement
This is a voluntary statement; SRHE is not currently a public sector body and is not subject to the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We nonetheless treat WCAG 2.1 AA as our benchmark and welcome feedback that helps us meet it.
